Gift to NASA & Anne C. McClain

- The Story -

Around March 1st, 2019 it dawned on me that I was capable of making the most meaningful piece of astrometry jewelry I had ever created. In 2016 NASA helped me find how to chart the sky of the future or past from any location on Earth, for this I am grateful. I used information from that, and from Mission Control at Johnson Space Center available online for my calculations for this gift. They post future sighting opportunities of the International Space Station periodically, through these two sources I had the concept of my gift. It is a token of my appreciation for their work, and NASA Astronaut Anne McClain gets to keep it if she wants to. It was difficult to decide who to give it to, my intuition lead me to choose Anne.

I put enough love into it to allow me to dream of it being photographed from the I.S.S. with Earth in the background.

The points of significance in this piece are many. I will outline them here.

1. The I.S.S. will be visible where I have set it into this jewelry as 14K gold with a real diamond set into it, as will the constellations in the Northern sky. It's a sky map of the future. 6:42 AM (CDT) March 14th, 2019 from Houston, TX where Mission Control is located at Johnson Space Center.

2. The constellation Draco ('Dragon') and partial constellation Cygnus just happen to be in this view. They are 14K gold to honor the spacecrafts involved closely with the I.S.S. that are named after them.

3. March 14th marks the launch and docking date of 3 more crew members to the Station. This date is also: Pi Day, Einstein's birthday, as well as my grandmother and brother's birthdays. On a personal level that I am compelled to mention, my brother's sudden death in 2015 is the reason I even started making jewelry, so his birthday carries extra emotion for me.
